If the attack misses, or the target negates, the spell dissipates without effect. You can pick a color effect of your level or lower to create.

Caster Level Color Damage Special Power
1st Pearly White 1d4 Light: The target is surrounded by light to a radius of 20 ft., as if affected by a light spell, for one round. While illuminated, the target takes a -4 penalty to attacks and saves, and has an AC penalty of 4.

7th Sapphire Blue 2d8 Paralysis: The target must save vs. paralyzation or be paralyzed for 2d8+4 rounds.
10th Amethyst VioletParalysis Petrification: The target is turned to stone. The creature can attempt a save vs. petrification to negate, but if it is half the caster’s level or less, they are still paralyzed for 1d4+1 rounds even on a successful save.
12th Ebony Black SlowDeath: The creature dies if they fail a save vs. death. If the target succeeds, it is instead slowed for 2d4 rounds.

Bio:

Bertram Figg was once the apprentice of the much lauded image maker, Claudius Bigglesby. An only child, the vocation of illusion was Bertram’s playmate. He rehearsed for countless hours the verbal and somatic components of his spells. His devotion to craft and single-mindedness impressed his parents, whose family had once had a strong reputation in the phantasmal arts. As Bertram was coming of age, Claudius started to introduce Bertram to the more dangerous aspects of illusion magic. The unstable, wild nature of all magic of this era resulted in an accident in Bigglesby's workshop. Before them opened an immense gate of whirling smoke and ash, and something emerged from it, what Bertram could only describe as “…a living shadow.” Bertram looked on helplessly as his master was drained of his years, and withered away in the blink of an eye. The accident so traumatized Bertram that he swore off of magic for decades. He disappeared into exile living under assumed names, taking odd jobs, and working in kitchens and inns to get by. The powerful illusion magic of the gnomes was once a great source of pride, but in Bertram's time in the Gnomish ghettoes, it was looked upon with suspicion. Without a master to teach him, Bertram needed to find another path in life. He settled into a life of servitude in a middle class household by the name of Purplebottom, as their butler. Drawing upon his experiences abroad, he served as the family counselor in times of need, and grew to love them as if they were his own family. He taught Bea and their youngest how to read, and how to write. He schooled them in social graces and proper manners. He assisted them with their studies, and prepared their meals. However, he was often at odds with the little Purplebottom child, and his rambunctious ways began to irk Bertram. His attempts to use his magical abilities to resolve simple family disputes and undo Wellesley's various pranks often ended in hilarious mix-ups; and yet all was not well in the Purplebottom household…Mr. Purplebottom came to resent Bertram's nosiness and constant meddling in his affairs, and their youngest, Wellesley Purplebottom, had developed a knack for mischief taking after Bertram's schemes. Mr. Figg's contract was not renewed for a seventh season, as Mr. Purplebottom explained; "It's time for us to head in a new direction," Bertram had hoped he could remain with the Purplebottoms forever, but now he faced the lonely road ahead. At his age, he could still go back to work, but he knew what that life was, which is why he left it in the first place. He packed his things, and left without saying goodbye in the heat of the night.
